A pendant signed by the American sculptor Alxeander Calder purchased for 15 dollars, just over 10 euros and resold for 300 thousand greenbacks. Things that can happen: so from now on pay attention to the antique markets. This rare piece of jewelry was, in fact, found at a flea market in 2005. Now it will go up for auction. It is a necklace designed by the great American sculptor Calder, which was purchased for 15 dollars and is now on sale at Christie’s, for a sum ranging between 200 thousand and 300 thousand dollars: it will be put on sale on September 26th. Calder (1898-1976) is famous for inventing large kinetic art sculptures called mobiles. In addition to sculpture, Calder also devoted himself to painting, lithographs and the design of toys, tapestries and carpets. Calder designed over a thousand pieces of jewelry throughout his career. The story of this series is quite funny. It was purchased eight years ago at a yard sale by Norma Ifill, a woman from Philadelphia. Years later, visiting an exhibition of jewelery created by artists, she realized that she had worn something more than simple costume jewelery around her neck. An expert report then confirmed that it is a work by Calder and that the same necklace had been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1943.
